It was recently confirmed that Sabine Wren will be making her first live-action appearance in Ahsoka, but are there any other characters who might show up from Rebels? After all, there are a fair few of them, and while Ahsoka’s time in the show wasn’t as long as we’d hoped, she was still part of the birth of the rebellion. Not only that, but we saw her duel with Darth Vader, and also travel through time with Jedi Ezra Bridger - another character who has been confirmed to appear in the show, as well as Rebels villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. The Mandalorian Season 2’s “The Jedi” revealed that Ahsoka is on the hunt for Thrawn, while the Rebels Season 4 epilogue - which is set a few years before the Ahsoka series - suggests that Ahsoka and Sabine will also team up to search for Ezra. Let’s take a look at some of the show’s most popular characters, and whether they might make an appearance in the upcoming Ahsoka series.
Captain Rex
Captain Rex was most recently seen in The Bad Batch, in which he helps Clone Force 99 evade the newly formed Galactic Empire. However, years later he would also end up helping the first rebels, as seen in the animated show of the same name. He’s discovered in exile alongside a group of other clones and ends up playing an integral role in helping them to defeat Grand Admiral Thrawn. It was quite touching to see him reunite with his old friend Ahsoka, having seen them fight side-by-side during the Clone Wars, and also go through a lot together in those last four episodes of the show. Seeing Rex in the Ahsoka series makes too much sense to ignore. Not only are the two close friends and former comrades, but Rex often has a lot of intel when it comes to goings-on throughout the galaxy, having worked as a rebel spy. Now that we know Ahsoka is searching for Thrawn, as revealed in The Mandalorian Season 2’s “The Jedi”, it’s likely something her old friend might be able to help her with. Rex also plays a part in the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, so his character is still alive in the years that follow the original trilogy, which is when the Ahsoka series will be set. With all that said, Temuera ‘Boba Fett; Morrison should be called upon to fill Rex’s boots, seeing as he played him in the prequel trilogy, and is also the ‘face’ of the entire clone army.
Hera Syndulla
Hera Syndulla was originally rumored to appear in the live-action show Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, however, that project was put on the back-burner at Disney and Lucasfilm, which may have had something to do with the Gina Carano controversy, as her character Cara Dune was also set to appear in the show. Nevertheless, the Twi’elk rebel fighter pilot Hera Syndulla plays a pivotal role in the early years of the Rebel Alliance, as she literally leads the Ghost crew throughout the entire run of Rebels aboard the Ghost. Exactly how she could be brought into the fold in the upcoming Ahsoka series is unknown, but there’s plenty of room for her, even if it’s in a small cameo. Following Rebels, Hera goes on to give birth to Kanan’s son, Jacen Syndulla, however, she continues to fight against the Empire, and even takes part in the Battle of Hoth and the Battle of Endor, and goes on to become one of the top military leaders in the New Republic (hence why she was set to appear in that now-cancelled show). So Hera is yet another Rebels character who lives on in the years that follow the original trilogy. Seeing her brought to life in live-action would be great, and for some reason actress Naomi Scott enters our minds. But that’s probably because we want to see Princess Jasmine reunited with Aladdin - and Mena Massoud is rumored to be playing Ezra Bridger in the Ahsoka series.
Zeb Orrelios
Zeb (or Garazeb) is easily one of the more memorable members of the Ghost crew, and alongside Astromech droid Chopper, provides some much-need levity in the last couple of seasons of Rebels, which get increasingly dark. He’s also another character who plays a pivotal role against the Galactic Empire and continues to live on beyond the original trilogy, so having him appear in the Ahsoka series wouldn’t involve breaking any life-and-death rules. However, if he is to show up, it would most probably be alongside another Rebels character. Although Zeb and Ezra also develop a bond during the show (though their relationship does get off to a rocky start, especially during Ezra’s brattier younger years), it’s more likely to be Hera, considering that Ezra is missing in action. The Lasat fighter would translate well to live-action, and many fans of the show would agree that casting Idris Elba (who was recently cast as Knuckles in the upcoming movie Sonic the Hedgehog 2) would be a wise choice. So it’s possible that Ahsoka may indeed need to round up members of the Ghost crew, who have likely disbanded over the years, in a bid to help her track down Ezra Bridger.
Bo-Katan Kryze
We’ve already seen Bo-Katan in live-action, as she made her debut in The Mandalorian Season 2, with actress Katee Sackhoff reprising her role, having voiced her in both The Clone Wars and Rebels. The character of Bo-Katan has a long history with Ahsoka Tano, having fought at her side during the Siege of Mandalore at the end of the Clone Wars. And in The Mandalorian, Bo-Katan is even able to point Din Jarin in the direction of Ahsoka on the planet Corvus, so even decades on, it sounds like the two have an existing relationship. While Bo-Katan will definitely be one of the characters returning for The Mandalorian Season 3, now that Din Jarin is in possession of the Darksaber, it’s still possible she’ll show up in Ahsoka too. For starters, the two shows will be set around the same time, and fans of The Clone Wars will be crying out to see Ahsoka and Bo-Katan standing side-by-side in live-action. Either way, whether it’s Ahsoka or The Mandalorian Season 3, we can’t wait to see Katee Sackhoff slipping her Mandalorian armor back on.
Anakin Skywalker Force Ghost
Having Anakin Skywalker appear in the Ahsoka series is perhaps one of the most natural on this entries list, seeing as he’s Ahsoka’s old Jedi Master. The two grow incredibly close during the Clone Wars, and even after Ahsoka leaves the Jedi Order, after being framed for murder by a fellow Padawan, both characters grieve for one another, and can even sense when the other is somewhere close by. Their relationship meets a tragic end, when, as we know, Anakin turns to the dark side, and Ahsoka goes into exile following Order 66. The good news is that Hayden Christensen has been confirmed to be appearing in Ahsoka. In Rebels, many years later, the two do battle at a Sith Temple, which is the first time Ahsoka encounters Darth Vader, during which she learns his true identity. But, as we know, Anakin eventually finds redemption in Return of the Jedi, and we even see a Hayden Christensen-Force Ghost at the end, which means that the actor will likely appear in the same form in the upcoming Ahsoka series. In fact, as he’s even set to reprise his role of Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi, seeing him return as a Force Ghost really isn’t out of the question. Ahsoka will see Rosario Dawson reprise her role as the titular Togruta, and will start streaming on Disney+ sometime next year. In the meantime, you can check out all things Star Wars on the streaming service.
