The series has a lot of religious references, especially since its primary premise revolves around the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a fictional military order of highly-trained, specialized Warrior Nuns working together with Magic Priests who serve the Catholic Church. Throughout the story, in both the graphic novels and the television series, we see the nuns showcase their combat prowess and commitment to the Order, protecting and assisting the Warrior Nun in her battle against the evil that constantly threatens the peace and safety of the Earth. We also get to see the sacred tools, Holy Relics, that the Warrior Nun Ava uses to defeat evil.
The Halo
The Halo is the first Holy Relic we encounter in the Netflix series. We see a young and very much dead Ava at the beginning of the first season. But when the previous Warrior Nun places the Halo in Ava to protect the relic from pursuers, Ava finds herself becoming the unwilling center of a war that will affect the fate of all humanity. Legends say that the Angel Adriel gave the Halo to Areala of Cordoba, a fierce and loyal warrior who was injured in battle while fighting for God. Adriel decided that Areala’s mission was not over, so he gave a part of himself, the Halo, to Areala, thus reviving her, healing her injuries, and granting her supernatural powers. After receiving the Halo, Areala became the first Warrior Nun. As an ancient, sacred artifact, the Halo can grant powers to its holder, like the ability to see and summon demons. It can also enhance the physical abilities of its holder, healing their injuries and numbing them from any pain.
The Divinum Sword
The Divinum Sword is the main weapon of the Warrior Nun. Coupled with the Halo, the Divinum Sword gives the Warrior Nun the ability to destroy and kill Tarasks. As indicated by its name, the sword is made of Divinum, an organic material with supernatural powers that is extremely rare on Earth. Its lore claims that Divinum came from the armor Adriel wore when he descended to Earth to save Areala. The earliest historical record of the material dates back to the First Crusade when Adriel killed a Tarask that was pursuing him. Adriel then had human blacksmiths melt down the Tarask’s remains and use the material to craft armor and weapons. The Order protects Divinum under the order of the Church. The nuns use Divinum fragments and crafts them into bullets, arrow tips, and various weapons. When Ava visits Adriel’s tomb, she finds that the walls are pure Divinum. She also notices the Tarask’s remains and observes that it is also pure Divinum.

The Crown of Thorns
The Crown of Thorns is a holy relic that can render Adriel powerless. Coming from Reya’s realm, the Crown of Thornes is another artifact that can enhance the powers of the Warrior Nun. There are no records of the origins of the Crown, so far. Areala allegedly first used the crown to defeat Adriel and trap him in a prison deep in Vatican’s underground. After Areala’s passing, her successor Sister Cora gives the Crown to the Coptic order of nuns in Egypt. However, during the Egyptian Civil War, the British army looted throughout Egypt, also stealing the Crown in the process. The Coptic nuns have been searching for the Crown for years since it was stolen. A member of the Coptic order, Sister Yasmine, soon heard about a collection of looted artifacts donated to the Prado museum from a British officer’s estate. She believes that the Crown was part of the collection. With Adriel back and slowly putting his plans into place, the Crown would be key in stopping him gaining absolute power.
Ava and the nuns steal the Crown from the museum, planning to use it to subdue Adriel so they can send him back to where he came from through the Arc. Father Vincent steals the Crown back when this plan fails and gives it to Ava. Ava decides to wear the Crown, which renders her unconscious but shows her visions from Reya’s realm. She finds out that Adriel escaped from Reya and intends to invade the Earth, ruling over humanity and all of mankind. Michael, Ava, and the nuns later on decide not to use the Crown but to place it as bait to lure Adriel. However, Adriel succeeds in stealing the Crown and intends to use it to trap Reya so that he will be finally, truly free. Adriel’s plans are foiled when Ava calls on the Tarasks who kill Adriel, ending his plans for good.
