HBO officially confirms the cancellation of Westworld after four seasons through a statement on The Hollywood Reporter, “Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step." HBO added, “We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television. It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey.” The production company of co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Kilter Films, who handle Westworld, also released their own statement, “Making Westworld has been one of the highlights of our careers. We are deeply grateful to our extraordinary cast and crew for creating these indelible characters and brilliant worlds.” Kilter Films is grateful to everyone who supported Westworld, “We’ve been privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness – both human and beyond – in the brief window of time before our AI overlords forbid us from doing so.”
This statement, however, is contrary to the excitement of the co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy when they discussed the future of Westworld during the New York Comic Con last month. As reported by Deadline, Nolan teased their general plan on Westworld, “We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.” Joy added that they already have an idea of how the series would end, “Jonah and I have always had an ending in mind that we hope to reach. We have not quite reached it yet.”

Unlike the previous seasons, the renewal of Westworld for Season 5 wasn’t announced during the duration of Season 4 which gave a hint to the fans and followers of the series that the show may be in danger of cancellation. The day they feared finally happened. Westworld follow a dystopian sci-fi world where androids are hosts who are programmed not to do any harm on humans. It became widespread and everyone got under the control of Rehoboam, a powerful artificial intelligence. News on cancellations are quite common for the titles under Warner Bros. Discovery due to the merger of the companies. It is possible that it is the same reason of the cancellation of Westworld, among others. Westworld Seasons 1 to 4 are still streaming on HBO Max.
