On Saturday, Netflix confirmed that Henry Cavill has decided to leave The Witcher after playing Geralt of Rivia in the show’s first three seasons. It was also revealed that Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth will take over the role in Season 4 (Cavill will still appear in the show’s third season next year). Since then, people have shared their disappointment over the news and claimed that recasting Geralt is a huge mistake considering that Henry Cavill is simply perfect for the role because of his passion for the source material. That’s when Tomasz Baginski took to Facebook to defend the decision to recast the character for The Witcher Season 4.
“I realize yesterday’s announcement shocked at least as much as Elon’s takeover of Twitter, but the world survived not such surprises. The Witcher can make it. The third season is very strong. There are only a few years until the fourth. Bond and Batman discover something new and interesting with each change of appearance. We have the time. Geralt is in the same league,” Baginski wrote. It’s an interesting point considering that Henry Cavill was once rumored to be the next James Bond. In addition to that, he was recently confirmed to continue playing Superman in future DC Extended Universe projects. We’re still having a hard time imagining anyone other than Cavill playing the White Wolf. In the meantime, The Witcher Season 3 will premiere on Netflix in 2023.
