According to What’s On Netflix, they are creating an anime spin-off series called Stranger Things Tokyo. The report revealed that the anime series has actually been in development for some time now. But it was in early 2021 when the project was first brought up. Here’s what we know about this upcoming show:
When Will Stranger Things Tokyo Come Out?
The release date for the Stranger Things spin-off has not yet been announced. But it’s been said that the show will have a total runtime of six hours and is being called “the first” spin-off project of the franchise. This could mean that The Duffer Brothers have pretty big plans for the show. As of this writing, Stranger Things has already been adopted into other formats including a couple of games and the Netflix Games exclusive, Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales.
What Will Stranger Things Tokyo Be About?
Right now, there’s not much information about the anime spin-off show. But Netflix shared a brief logline of the show: “An encounter with the Upside Down evolves into a grand adventure for video game-loving twin brothers living on the outskirts of 1980s Tokyo.” The creators of the show also spoke on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and revealed more details about Stranger Things Tokyo. Matt Duffer said that the show will be “1,000% different” than the Netflix Original series. The creator also revealed that the story will have a connection to the Stranger Things universe “but it really is more about how we’re telling that story.”
When Is Stranger Things Season 5 Coming Out?
Speaking of Stranger Things, avid fans are already anticipating the return of the show for its fifth and final season. Since filming is slated to start on May 2023, it’s possible that Stranger Things won’t return until 2024.
