The official Star Wars Twitter account has shared the adorable poster for the upcoming project from Lucasfilm and Studio Ghibli. Titled Star Wars: Zen - Grogu and Dust Bunnies, the hand-drawn original short will put the focus on Baby Yoda and the spunky little Soot Sprites from beloved Ghibli features My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Check out the awesome poster below.
Details about the project have not yet been revealed. However, the title and poster pretty much confirm that Baby Yoda will get to meet the Dust Bunnies who played a small yet important role in Studio Ghibli’s 2001 animated movie Spirited Away. Soot Sprites or “susuwatari” have been a beloved fixture in Studio Ghibli projects. The Dust Bunnies first appeared in My Neighbor Totoro in the house that Satsuki and Mei moved into. They get a bigger role in Spirited Away, helping Kamaji in carrying coals to stoke the fire in the boiler room and aiding the protagonist Chihiro in their own little ways. The idea of a collaboration between Star Wars and Studio Ghibli is certainly a welcome one considering that the former has been embracing Japanese animation in the past few years. After the action-packed Star Wars Visions anthology series, a short but sweet feature filled with wholesomeness is an excellent way to bring balance to the franchise. Star Wars: Zen - Grogu and Dust Bunnies will premiere on Disney+ on November 12, 2022. Baby Yoda is set to return with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian Season 3, which has not yet been given an official release date but is set to begin streaming in February 2023.
