However, it looks like the series’ exploration of the beginning of the rebellion will have a resonance with the current times that we’re living according to one of its stars Fiona Shaw, who plays Maarva, during a recent interview with Empire Magazine.
“Tony [Gilroy] has written a great, scurrilous [take] on the Trumpian world,” Shaw said. “Our world is exploding in different places right now, people’s rights are disappearing, and Andor reflects that. [In the show] the Empire is taking over, and it feels like the same thing is happening in reality, too.”
The Emmy-nominated actress continued, “I was impressed by Tony’s social-realist intentions. He’s created a whole new morality. It’s very deep and humane – there is grief, mourning, hope, fear. It’s not just primary colours here.”
Based on Shaw’s comments, it looks like the series will continue the franchise’s political allegory which also harkens back to the original film back in 1977. It is also in alignment with showrunner Tony Gilroy’s other works such as the Jason Bourne films which also speak about governance and the current times.
Obviously, we won’t be able to understand what Shaw exactly meant with her comments until we see the series next month. If we are going to look at the footage that they showed to us so far, it seems like they are going to deliver what they promised when they first announced the project.
Andor is set to premiere with three episodes on September 21 on Disney+. You can chck the trailer again here:
