What seemed like a pretty harmless tweet couldn’t have come at a very difficult time as his remarks were made following the announcement that DC’s Batgirl film starring Leslie Grace has been shelved completely. He wrote: “I’m sorry to inform you guys that Disney has decided to scrap the Shang-Chi Holiday Special due to quality control concerns. I had already filmed the entire thing. I even designed an all-gingerbread Ta Lo. RIP Shang Chi and the Legend of the TEEEN GOLDEN RIIIIINGS”. Naturally, fans immediately jumped to the conclusion that the MCU star was trying to poke fun at the DC Extended Universe project’s cancelation which was originally slated for an HBO Max-exclusive release. Liu’s post was bombarded with criticism from folks who thought he was being insensitive not only to his colleagues but also to the crew who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes only for the film to get canned.
