In a new interview with Collider, Barrera talked about how gory Scream 6 will be saying, “There was a saying on set because (directors) Matt (Bettinelli-Olpin) and Tyler (Gillett) were always asking for more blood and more sweat. They always just wanted more.”

“‘More blood spritz’ was the saying,” she continued, “because they would just always want more. With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, ‘We’re going all out.’ It’s potentially a hundred times gorier.”

Since Neve Campbell’s shocking exit from the project earlier this year, there have been a lot of tidbits for the upcoming sequel, with stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega revealing plenty of intriguing details about the film.

Filming in Montreal wrapped on Scream 6 back in the summer, after which Barrera revealed that there are some sequences in the upcoming film in which the Ghostface killer is pursuing victims through New York City ’s Times Square.

Recently, Jenna Ortega, who is now best known for playing Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix series but will be reprising her role as Sam’s sister Tara in the upcoming sequel, also teased that some sequences will pay homage to Scream 2 (2000).

Ortega also said that Scream 6 will be “action-heavy” and “gore-heavy”, something that’s sure to delight fans of the franchise. While Scream isn’t known for its gore per se, the last two entries in the series have echoed the likes of Saw and Final Destination.

Recently, an image from the trailer reportedly leaked online. While it’s nothing more than a character ensemble, the chances of Ghostface being among the line-up is pretty high…

Scream 6 stars Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter), Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), Hayden Panettiere (Kirby Reed), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks), and Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks).

Newcomers are Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Tony Revolori, Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Liana Liberato, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving in undisclosed roles.

A brief synopsis for the upcoming sequel is as follows:

“[Scream 6] continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”

Scream 6 will be released in theaters on March 10, 2023.
