In the previous trailers for the game, the new island of Waford was shown as the main setting for Odyssey. But this new trailer confirms that fans will be able to visit and explore one of the series’ most iconic and beloved locations. Check out the new trailer here:
Not familiar with the game? One Piece Odyssey is an upcoming RPG with a turn-based combat system. In the game, players will be able to control the Straw Hat Pirates, including Luffy, Zoro, and the rest of the crew. The game’s combat allows players to optimize the position of the party members to counter opponents. Combat will also feature a random element called the Dramatic Scene where certain characters can fall into tough situations, like Sanji being unable to attack when surrounded by women.
As for exploration, each playable character will have unique abilities that can be used for traversal, as well as solving puzzles that players will come across on the mysterious new island. Much like other games in the franchise, Odyssey will not be part of the official One Piece canon. Though series creator Eiichiro Oda does provide the designs for the new characters and monsters. Plus, the development team worked closely with Oda and Shueisha in the game’s development.
The game is set in the post-time skip era. While it’s not canon, it’s still unexpected to see Alabasta in the game, especially as the Straw Hats are in the New World. As explained in the trailer, the Alabasta that they visit in the game won’t be the actual island. Instead, it is a memory of Alabasta as Odyssey will let the crew visit the world of their memories. Even if it’s a memory, it should still be a treat for fans, especially as Vivi will be part of it.
The game will come in three versions:
Standard Edition – Features the full game and pre-order bonuses (if pre-ordered) that include in-game items like the pre-time skip Straw Hat outfits.Deluxe Edition – Features all the Standard Edition items along with extra in-game content such as the Sniper King outfit for Usopp.Limited Edition Bundle – Features all the Standard Edition items along with a Luffy & Lim figurine.
One Piece Odyssey is set to release on January 13, 2023, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
