Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that there are two Pirates projects being developed by Disney — one that stars Margot Robbie and another one that will serve as a reboot featuring a younger cast. However, it looks like only one project will ultimately receive the House of Mouse’s green light. He reveals: “Oh God, they’re all hard. I think we’re getting very close on that one, too. We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully, we’ll get both of them.“Interestingly, Bruckheimer also recently hinted that Depp could be making his return to the franchise to do Pirates of the Caribbean 6 but it seems like he’s now backpedaling on his statement. Perhaps to avoid further spoilers? Or maybe Disney is truly committed to creating a new spin on the beloved franchise. Then again, the company isn’t known for acknowledging its questionable decisions so I guess it’s easier for them to do a reboot than to actually apologize for firing the actor.
That said, every film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is available to stream on Disney+.
