What’s on Netflix reports that Netflix will likely be having Greta Gerwig directing the first two Narnia movies. Though it is unclear whether the Chronicles of Narnia reboot will be based on the order of C.S. Lewis’ books.
It was back in 2018 when the official The Chronicles of Narnia Facebook page first announced their ‘new deal’ with Netflix that the streaming network is set to develop a new set of films and series for C.S. Lewis’ beloved children book series. Check out the post below:
Although no production updates have been made since then about the franchise, they had appointed Disney’s Coco co-writer Matthew Aldrich as the ‘lead architect’ in 2019.
The Chronicles of Narnia had managed to develop three movies back in the early 2000s, however, the hype didn’t last long for a fourth film. The three movies had adapted ‘The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe’, ‘Prince Caspian’, and ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’.
While it remains unclear how Netflix plans to approach this, and is doubted to start any production plans until at least sometime in 2023, there are two potential starters for the reboot: they can either begin with The Magician’s Nephew, which is the actual first book of the series, and much recommended by the author himself in starting the novel series with, or sticking to the former, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Either way, with Greta Gerwig and Matthew Aldrich reportedly about to collaborate to make this reboot possible, given their history of successes in their previous projects, it is safe to say that this Narnia reboot will surely give more justice in adapting more faithfully to C.S. Lewis’ books.
There are no official announcements yet on the release of the Narnia reboot.
