Peter Friedlander recently spoke to Variety about Netflix’s plans for the future. The executive addressed the delay in announcing The Sandman’s renewal despite the show’s obvious success that should have immediately greenlighted a second season. “We wanted to spend the time to get creatively aligned around what would be the next, best experience with The Sandman,” Friedlander said. He then revealed that the streamer took time to discuss the plans for the second season with showrunner Allan Heinberg and author Neil Gaiman.
“Because of that, we wanted to spend the time with Allan and Neil and really talk through and be thoughtful about what the approach should be – because Season 1 is also very thoughtful and intentional. So that was really what took the extra time, is to get our ducks in a row,” he concluded. It’s great to know that Netflix is taking special care with The Sandman Season 2 and making sure that everything will be just right with the series. Now fans are more assured that the streamer is supporting Allan Heinberg and Gaiman’s intentions for the second season. For now, it has not been revealed which comic storylines will be adapted in The Sandman Season 2. However, it has already been confirmed that the second season will introduce the comic’s trans character Wanda Mann and adapt her tragic storyline. The Sandman Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
