Lycoris Recoil: What’s It All About?
Chisato Nishikigi is a bubbly cafe worker at downtown Tokyo’s Cafe LycoReco. Her partner, the ever-serious Takina Inoue, couldn’t be any more different from her. Chisato and Takina are leading double lives as Cafe LycoReco staff and Lycoris agents, where they cater to ordinary cafe requests one minute and fulfill life-threatening missions the next. With their opposite personalities, one couldn’t help but wonder if they would be able to work together smoothly. As their missions so far have shown, they are more than the perfect pair. Together, Chisato and Takina will help keep the peace and safety in Japan, as well as the other Lycoris throughout the country. The first two episodes of Lycoris Recoil went right into the action and laid the groundwork for the story. Villains were introduced and possible conflicts were presented. Episode 3 was more of an explainer that filled gaps and closed up seams. We now know that communications were down when Takina allegedly “ignored” orders, and how she was unknowingly forced to take the fall instead to keep the fact that their supposedly impenetrable system was hacked. The latest episode also served as the part of the story where the two girls’ friendship is cemented. The cute spinning hug moment that Chisato and Takina shared after the latter revealed more of her emotions further excited those who had already asked whether Lycoris Recoil is a yuri anime. Nevertheless, it was a wholesome moment that was only made even more special with that satisfying two-versus-two mock battle that the two girls won against DA HQ’s Fuki and Sakura. Takina’s smile at the end was the cherry on top. If episode 3 was a nice breather, something tells me we’re getting back on that action with episode 4!
