Brought by the same studio that served everyone DOTA: Dragon’s Blood and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, Studio MIR, Lookism lands on Netflix based on the Korean webtoon of Park Tae-joon. In a rare occurrence, the creator himself, sits down for an interview as shared by Netflix Anime. Also known as T.Jun, he seemed to be a shy person. He reveals the story behind the creation of the webtoon, Lookism, where he dreamed of becoming a cartoonist and just when he thought he would fulfill his dreams by 60, it became a lot earlier with webtoons. T.Jun shared the process of bringing Lookism to Netflix, and how he wanted to combine entertainment to social issues, a message that clearly transcended through the screens. Lookism follows a high school student, Park Hyung Seok, who dreads his appearance because he is bullied for being overweight. One fateful day, Park Hyung Seok discovered that he has the ability to “soul hop” into an attractive young man who is slimmer and taller, however, his ability has its limits. Park Hyung Seok can only turn into being the attractive young, slim, and tall man during the day where he is model for a clothing line, an entertainment company trainee, and a social media influencer. However, he has to come back to his original body at night. As the darkness of the night bites, Park Hyung Seok comes back to the harsh reality of who he really is, and this gives him a broader perspective on how people discriminate others just because of their physical appearance. Lookism is now available to stream on Netflix.
