On top of that, the original trilogy’s fans had mixed feelings about Resurrections and as it turns out, even one of the franchise’s original cast members didn’t find the film appealing overall. Speaking with Variety, Laurence Fishburne criticized the fourth Matrix film and even said that he doesn’t regret missing out on it.When asked whether or not he got the chance to see the film last year, the Morpheus actor said: “It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, and it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be. But I thought Carrie-Anne and Keanu really did their thing. Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

Discovery will actually pull the trigger on producing a fifth sequel remains to be seen but I think we can all agree that the poor performance of Resurrections is a dead giveaway.
