Recently speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Winslet addresses the elephant in the room by straight out saying Jack and Rose would definitely not have survived if they had shared the raft on freezing waters. Check out Winslet’s full comment below:
“I don’t f—king know. That’s the answer. I don’t f—king know.” Winslet continues on to say how two adults on a paddleboard would have made no sense, “Look, all I can tell you is, I do have a decent understanding of water and how it behaves. If you put two adults on a stand-up paddleboard, it becomes immediately, extremely unstable. That is for sure.”
The Avatar: The Way of Water star had to be honest, sharing what her overall thought is on the subject: “I actually don’t believe we would have survived if we had both gotten on that door. I think he would have fit, but it would have tipped and it would not have been a sustainable idea.”
Upon ending her statement, the actress was more than welcome to say, “So, you heard it here for the first time. Yes, he could have fit on that door. But it would not have stayed afloat. It wouldn’t [have].”
James Cameron’s Titanic may have premiered over 25 years ago, but it remains to be one of the most prominent and popular references to discuss today. The Jack and Rose’s raft ending argument may not have been a question of logic to the fans, but rather the sentiment that the couple should have survived, which would have indicated a happy ever after ending for both. Meanwhile, Kate Winslet returns on another James Cameron project and that is on his Avatar sequel.
