Fans of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga have several questions about Gojo’s current situation, his fate in the Prison Realm, and more. At the time of writing this article, Gojo has been sealed for 966 days. Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
How Was Satoru Gojo Sealed?
The entire plot of Gojo’s sealing is centered around Kenjaku (Pseudo-Geto) wanting to get Gojo out of his way. Kenjaku is an ancient sorcerer who used his cursed technique to transplant his brain into the deceased Geto. Since Kenjaku cannot kill Gojo because it is nearly impossible to do that, he wants to seal him away for good. Kenjaku then decides to use a special grade curse item called the Prison Realm. In order to execute this plan, Kenjaku casts a big curtain over Shibuya and traps countless people inside it. Eventually, Gojo gets inside this curtain and makes his way to the subway basement. Upon his arrival, he witnesses a sea of civilians stuck in the basement. Gojo sees Jogo, Hanami, and Choso among the civilians. Once the trio confirms Gojo’s presence, they seal off all the entrances and exits. They want to keep Gojo distracted long enough to execute the next phase of the plan, which involves unleashing the Prison Realm closer to Gojo. In the meantime, Gojo singles out Hanami and nearly obliterates him using Infinity. Later, Gojo goes after Jogo, but a train suddenly arrives at the metro station. It is filled with thousands of transfigured humans and Mahito, who joins the fight against Gojo. Meanwhile, Gojo continues to fight and overpower his opponents. However, things get complicated when the transfigured humans start killing the trapped civilians. At this point, Gojo is unable to figure out why they are killing the civilians when they can use them as a bargaining chip. To further confuse him, the entrances and exits of the basement are opened, and Gojo wonders if more curses or cursed users will appear. Kenjaku and company are doing this to keep Gojo distracted with irrelevant things while they kickstart the next phase of their plan. Jogo believes that the presence of civilians will stop Gojo from unleashing his ever-so-powerful domain expansion – Infinite Void – because it will, literally, destroy everything, including the civilians. Now, technically, for this short amount of time, the domain expansion should not have any long-term effects on non-sorcerers. However, it does disorient them, but they should come out of it after some sort of rehabilitation. Gojo’s plan works out when all the transfigured humans are rendered unconscious. Then, Gojo goes on a rampage and kills all the transfigured humans, and at the end of it, he bumps into a cube, which is the Prison Realm. Suddenly, Kenjaku appears and commands the Prison Realm to open. Read More: Jujutsu Kaisen: Every Shikigami of Megumi Fushiguro in Season 1 Explained
What Is the Prison Realm in Jujutsu Kaisen?
It is a living barrier and the final remains of a Buddhist monk named Genshin. Kenjaku states that there is nothing this realm can’t seal. But there are of course certain conditions. After opening the Prison Realm, they have to force Gojo to remain within a four-meter radius for one minute. The Prison Realm opens its eye and stares into Gojo’s eyes. Suddenly, Kenjaku appears behind Gojo and startles him. Gojo is shocked to see Geto as this is the first time he is seeing him. For the unversed, in Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the prequel to the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, Gojo killed Geto. Moreover, Gojo and Geto were best friends, so when Gojo sees Geto (Kenjaku) in the basement, he is in disbelief.
He could not believe it is Geto in front of him, and later, Kenjaku makes a big revelation about him taking over Geto’s dead body. Elsewhere, Gojo is now severely distracted and he ends up getting sealed by the Prison Realm. Kenjaku then commands the Prison Realm to close the gates and the Prison Realm returns to its cube-like form with Gojo sealed inside. Fans get a glimpse of Gojo inside the Prison Realm in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 91 as he shares that time nearly stops here. A Redditor named Double-Sentence-1398 notes that Gojo is using Infinity to push the skeletons away from him, and he is likely quite bored. Despite having time by his side, he cannot utilize it to train or get stronger because, inside the Prison Realm, he likely cannot feel his cursed energy. All Gojo can do is rest, nap, and kill time before someone can unseal him. Read More: Is Okkotsu Yuta Stronger Than Yuji Itadori?

The front gate of the Prison Realm is the key to sealing anything or anyone. But there is also a back gate that is crucial in freeing the prisoner sealed inside. However, Master Tengen has sealed the back of the Prison Realm, and this sealing has backfired against any plan to free Gojo. The only way to unseal the back gate is by using Miguel’s Black Rope or the Inverted Spear of Heaven, but Gojo has already destroyed both of these objects. Now, the only way to unseal Gojo is through the front of the Prison Realm, which is controlled by Kenjaku. However, all hope is not lost because, in the Culling Game arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, it is revealed that an angel named Hana Kurusu can play an instrumental role in freeing Gojo. Kurusu’s cursed technique is incredibly special because she has the ability to extinguish any other cursed technique. But the question remains: who can convince Kurusu to extinguish the cursed technique used to seal the back of the Prison Realm? In the ongoing Culling Game arc, it is likely that mangaka Gege Akutami will provide fans with an answer about Gojo’s fate. Until then, it is safe to assume that Gojo is alive and surviving inside the dreaded Prison Realm. Read More: Why Is Yuta Okkotsu Overseas in Jujutsu Kaisen?
