Goo Hara’s Ex-Boyfriend Is Responsible For Her Death
On October 12, SBS News and other multiple news outlets confirmed the Seoul Northern District Court’s ruling. The court ordered Choi Jong Bum to pay $55,00 to the late singer’s family as part of the restitution for being responsible for her death. The Supreme Court sentenced him to one-year imprisonment in 2020 after being found guilty of assaulting and threatening the late K-pop idol. “It seems that Koo Ha Ra had lost hope and motivation for the future despite achieving success as she started working as a celebrity at a young age,” the court ruled. He also damaged her property and illegally filmed her. These events inflicted massive psychological pain on Goo Hara, leading her to commit suicide. Meanwhile, the legal representative of Goo Hara’s family, Roh Jong Eon, said, “The highest level of restitution was ruled based on the amount of mental damage recognized by the court. In the long run, we hope that the court will increase the degree of restitution in similar situation in the future.”
Goo Hara and Other K-pop Idol’s Deaths
Before Goo Hara committed suicide, she worried her fans when she posted the word “Goodbye” on Instagram in May 2019. When she was checked after she posted the video, she was found unconscious and rushed to a hospital. She issued a letter of apology after regaining her consciousness. A month later, she revealed she was suffering from depression, as she warned everyone she would take legal action against those people who posted malicious comments against her. Her mental health issues worsened when Choi Jong Bum entered the picture. Aside from Goo Hara, Sulli and Kim Jong Hyun also died due to severe depression. The former f(x) member died before Goo Hara’s passing, while the late SHINee member died in December 2017.
