It no longer comes as a surprise that The Mandalorian series is very popular. Fans worldwide are very invested in the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu, and there’s also a little something in the series for everyone to enjoy. Other diehard Star Wars fans have been treated with major appearances of Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, and Luke Skywalker. Little Grogu has certainly stolen the show, and he’s unsurprisingly been a cash cow for Lucasfilm and Disney.
Both Lucasfilm and Disney are built on having strong merchandising, with a lot of loyal fans always turning out to collect the best and latest merchandise. In the coming months, there will be a big change that will take place with Disney+, as the platform is planning to reveal different subscription tiers to align with the product outputs in the platform.
In a new report from The Wall Street Journal, it is stated that Disney is planning to introduce a membership program for Disney+ subscribers. Though the plan is in its early stages of development, word is that the new program will be offering exclusive perks and merchandise opportunities for subscribers.
Among the merchandise to be offered are themed accessories, t-shirts, and even kid’s costumes that tie in to the platform’s shows. Disney+ will be QR-code enabled to send the subscriber of the platform to the shopDisney website, where there will be special access to various products.
For the fans, WSJ revealed that the Darksaber from The Mandalorian as a specific toy will be exclusive to members: “One example that executives have discussed as a possible merchandise tie-in is offering an exclusive toy version of a “darksaber”—a weapon from the Star Wars-themed series “The Mandalorian”—for sale only to Disney+ subscribers, a person familiar with the plans said.”
As of now, Disney+ hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the change to its platform.
