The announcement was made via the official ufotable Twitter account. It was accompanied by a concept trailer which was released just now on the official Genshin Impact YouTube channel. Check out the trailer here:
This new trailer features a gorgeously animated depiction of the world of Genshin Impact. It also features the two playable characters Aether and Lumine, as well as the game’s mascot character Paimon. The trailer features the characters with a more anime-like look, even more so than their in-game models. This might be our first look at what these main characters will look like in the project. In the trailer’s description, ufotable is credited for animation and music arrangement, with music by Yu-Peng Chen from HOYO-MiX. If you’re not familiar with ufotable, the renowned anime studio is considered one of the top animation houses in Japan thanks to its work on Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, as well as the Fate series.
This isn’t the first time that ufotable is working on animation for a video game. Just last year, the studio created the opening animation for Tales of Arise. Along with this, ufotable has also adapted games into TV anime such as God Eater and Tales of Zestiria the X. Meanwhile, Genshin Impact is an open-world action RPG by HoYoverse that’s available on PS5, PS4, Switch, PC, and mobile. The game was initially released back in September 2020, and since then, it has become one of the most popular games in recent years. Aside from enjoying massive popularity, the game is also one of the top-earning titles ever as it got over USD 3 billion in revenue in its first year of release.
HoYoverse calls this a “long-term collaboration project with ufotable”, and given that it came with an animated launch trailer, it’s likely that this announcement is for an upcoming Genshin Impact anime. Though as of writing, there are not a lot of details yet. It won’t be a surprise if it turns out to be an anime series. After all, lots of games have been getting animated series adaptations. Just last year, Riot Games and Fortiche Productions released Arcane to critical and fan acclaim. Right now, there are not a lot of details yet regarding this possible Genshin Impact anime project from ufotable.
