Deadpool and Wolverine may be two of the most popular superheroes today, and they have gained even more fame thanks to Wolverine joining Deadpool in the 2022 movie Deadpool 3. As two enigmatic superheroes who both have super regenerative powers, they are often pitted against each other, but who would win?

Introducing the Fighters

Let’s get to meet our fighters. Wolverine Logan, the version Hugh Jackman played, is a mutant with animal-like senses and powerful adamantium claws. Logan was one of the older mutants, having been born with his powers, and was known to have served during the Second World War. His claws were initially made of his bones until he acquired his Adamantium claws when he joined the Weapon X Program after becoming the subject of the experiment. Arguably one of the most famous and powerful mutants, it took much convincing before Professor X successfully recruited him to the X-Men. Deadpool Wade Wilson was a supervillain who was also the product of the Weapon X Program. There was a comic book issue claiming that he was already born with the mutant gene, which gave him even more enhanced abilities. Wilson was disfigured when he was experimented with but gained regenerative powers and excellent physical capabilities. If there was one thing that made Deadpool stand out, it was his self-awareness, being able to constantly surprise readers and viewers by breaking the fourth wall.

Vital Statistics

Now that we know who our fighters are, it’s to compare their stats and abilities to find out who will win.

Speed

Both Deadpool and Wolverine are fast and agile, thanks to the physical enhancements they received from the Weapon X Program. In the comic books, we see Wolverine can quickly and easily attack his enemies in significant numbers. He can easily defeat humans and even fellow mutants when his speed is coupled with his killer instincts and his combat abilities. Deadpool is also swift and agile, as evidenced by his ability to cut bullets in half, side-step through gunfire, and even run up the side of abuilding. Comparing these feats, we would say that Deadpool and Wolverine are a tie.

Strength

Wolverine and Deadpool are inhumanely strong due to being experimented on. Wolverine has been known to carry, and even throw, hundreds of pounds, and even threw a shark overboard once. Deadpool is no different, smashing through metal doors and carrying hundred-pound weapons with one hand. In terms of strengths, it’s a tie once again.

Smarts

Both Deadpool and Wolverine are intelligent in their own way. They may not be book smart like Professor X, but they are great strategists even if they prefer to work independently. Wolverine has extensive experience working as a spy, soldier, and samurai, and even learned how to spy-craft from Black Widow’s father. Deadpool, on the other hand, can speak many languages, which makes this category another tie.

Healing Ability (I tried, I can’t make it start with S)

Healing ability could be where the differences lie. Even though both Deadpool and Wolverine both have healing abilities, they have differences in control and purpose. Wolverine’s healing is directed toward getting rid of adamantium in his body, treating it like a foreign substance that is infecting his body. Meanwhile, Deadpool’s healing abilities are more advanced even though they were derived from Wolverine’s. Deadpool can control and speed up his healing, and his healing is also faster because Wolverine’s healing is impeded by its focus on the adamantium.

Battles in the Comic Books

Deadpool and Wolverine have met many times in various adventures in comic books, with one killing or fatally injuring the other. For example, in Cable and Deadpool #44, we see Deadpool unknowingly working with the HYDRA, and Wolverine finds them and defeats Deadpool, shoving his claws right into Deadpool’s chest. In another comic book, the Wolverine Annual ’99, Deadpool manages to throw his sword right into Wolverine’s shoulder, wounding him, but their encounter is disrupted.

The Ultimate Regenerate Degenerate

In the end, despite comparing the abilities and skills of Wolverine and Deadpool, their battles will almost always end in a tie. Only the writer of the story can tell who will win in each encounter.
