In an interview with Collider, Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg opens up on whether Shazam and Black Adam would somehow meet in the future. Sadly, the director admitted uncertainty about such crossover.“There hasn’t really been a conversation about that. I know, at the moment, Black Adam is sort of its thing and Shazam is its thing,” he said. “Then we’ll see where it all goes in the future, but I haven’t really been a part of any conversations like that.“Like Billy Batson – the teenager chosen to be Shazam’s champion, Black Adam was also selected by the god to be his successor. However, Black Adam did not want to be a hero, instead, he used his powers to be a sinister villain. In a previous interview, producer Beau Flynn revealed that both Shazam and Black Adam almost starred in one film, but it was The Rock’s idea to separate the two characters and give them their own origin stories.“I got a phone call very early in the morning from Dwayne Johnson, which is always very intimidating… he called Hiram and I, he just said, ‘Brothers,” he said, “We’re gonna make Black Adam,” Flynn told Comicbook.com. “We’re gonna tell this story. It’s so big and so important,’ and that was it. It was really an amazing… Dwayne’s instincts are so extraordinary but he was right. Again, we were deep in it and developing that script with both of them and there’s a reason why sometimes in our business sometimes you have to keep moving forward and sometimes the business tells you. We weren’t really cracking it. It wasn’t really working and then that’s when that call came through and everything changed.”Shazam! Fury of the Gods will premiere in theaters on December 21, while Black Adam will arrive on October 21.Also read: Black Adam Producers Promise Comically Accurate Portrayal of Doctor Fate’s Powers
