Fans and co-stars of Chadwick Boseman were devastated upon first hearing the news of his passing back in 2020, with questions surrounding if T’Challa might need to be recast within the MCU. Based on the new footage, we can assume that T’Challa is set to be given a proper narrative send-off as part of what will make this sequel emotional.
The trailer not only revealed Wakanda setting up a proper funeral for T’Challa, but also Shuri and her mother in white gowns, with Shuri, anticipated to rise as the new Black Panther, holding her brother’s helmet in her hands.
Although many of the original cast are returning to reprise their roles with Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Angela Basset’s Ramonda, and Winston Duke’s M’Baku, the cast admitted in their respective interviews how difficult making this movie had been without Chadwick Boseman, the perfect T’Challa for his MCU introduction in Captain America: Civil War and in his own movie, Black Panther.
The cast had been giving love and respect for Boseman in their interviews by showering the late actor with his life achievements before his passing. Hopefully, we get to see their characters reflect the situation into how the people of Wakanda would respond after losing their hero.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released on November 11, 2022, with the sequel’s plot expected to be led by the death of T’Challa and may take us deeper into Wakandan lore and mythology while establishing new characters and new terrain. Tenoch Huerta will reportedly be joining the sequel as the main villain, Namor the Sub-Mariner, going up against the people of Wakanda.
