Deadline has reported that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki writer Michael Waldron has been tapped to pen the screenplay for Avengers: Secret Wars. He is the first key player to join the project as the studio is still searching for a director who can spearhead the film. The report indicated that, while the studio met with many writers for the job, Waldron became the frontrunner considering the relationship that he already has with them due to his previous successful MCU projects. Prior to joining the franchise, he served as a writer for Rick and Morty and created the series Heels.

The plot details for the film are being kept under wraps for now. However, the title is based on the popular comic storyline of the same name which is known to revolve around the multiverse. It would be interesting to see how the events of The Kang Dynasty will set up this film. Considering that Waldron has worked in previous MCU projects that both dealt with the multiverse, it is not surprising to see him as the studio’s choice to pen the screenplay given the scale and nature of the story that they have in store for the film (if it does deal with the large ramification of the multiverse as we speculated). Now, we need to wait to see who they’ll tap to helm the film so that we can have an idea of who the film’s key creative players are. Either way, they are essentially going to be the ones who will be closing down the current Multiverse Saga.
