Avatar: The Way of Water has huge shoes to fill in considering that its predecessor landed it big on the box office as the then-highest grossing film of all time before the arrival of Marvel’s Endgame, and so far, the sequel is showing promise when it comes to the numbers. Considering that the circumstances are not really favorable with a massive winter storm, a pandemic still going on, and flu and RSV cases rising, these didn’t stop Avatar: The Way of Water to dominate the box office as it passes $253 million domestically and $855 million worldwide. The international numbers for Avatar: The Way of Water are bringing in a lot as it helps the sequel afloat while those in the US couldn’t be stopped even with a blizzard-like storm ravaging most of the parts of the country.

In just 10 days, Avatar: The Way of Water already secured its spot as the fifth highest-grossing film of 2022, but the sequel is still a few millions away from the target before the year ends: the $1 billion mark. Avatar: The Way of Water takes everyone back to Pandora with the introduction of new characters that will be pivotal throughout the narrative, a new perspective of the planet and a familiar threat that the Na’vi have from the Sky People, the humans. The sequel also introduces the family of Jake Sully and Neytiri which becomes that main focus of Avatar: The Way of Water as the couple tries to do everything for their children and for their safety.
