Alice in Borderland Season 2 Plot: What can we expect in the new episodes?
Alice in Borderland Season 1 covered roughly 31 chapters of Haro Aso’s manga series, leaving another 33 chapters left to be covered. The official synopsis of Season 1 reads: “Arisu—a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man—suddenly finds himself in a strange, emptied-out version of Tokyo in which he and his friends must compete in dangerous games in order to survive. In this strange world, Arisu meets Usagi, a young woman who’s navigating the games alone. Together, they set out to unravel one mystery after another as they risk their lives and confront what it means to live.” Throughout the first season, Arisu has faced a lot of traumatizing moments in Borderland, where he participated in deadly games with the two friends he initially arrived with, Chota and Korube, who sacrificed themselves to ensure Arisu had the best chance to progress and survive The climax of the first season happened during the Ten of Hearts game, where the residents of the beach had to correctly identify the “Witch” among them. After various infighting, many participants died in the chaos of the game, but Arisu was able to correctly figure out that the “Witch” is Momoka. The competitors placed the witch’s body on a bonfire to complete the game. Arisu and Usagi learned that Momoka and Asahi are Borderland’s dealers, not competitors of the games. Their role was to sabotage games in exchange for visas. Using Momoka’s phone as evidence, Arisu and Usagi were able to locate the underground control room, but who they believed to be as the gamemasters had been killed. In the final scenes of Season 1, a woman known as Mira shows up on the screens and announces that the games have just begun while inviting players to compete in the next series of games. When they returned to the surface, competitors saw blimps flying across the city of Tokyo.
Arisu and Usagi still have a lot to accomplish before they can escape the dangerous world of Borderland. They will have to continue playing the games if they want to solve the mystery surrounding Borderland and the gamemasters who control it.
Warning: Spoilers from the manga series ahead.
In the manga series, Mira is the Queen of Hearts, who was a psychiatrist in the real world. Expect her to be a major character in Alice in Borderland Season 2. The production studio behind the series hasn’t revealed how much of the manga series they will adapt, but it’s likely that they will bring the games featured in the original source material to the Netflix series. There should be enough material for eight new episodes, but it’s unclear if there will be a third season to conclude adapt the entire manga series. Manga readers are hoping to see the Queen of Hearts game, a.k.a. Croquet, in Alice in Borderland Season 2. The game doesn’t have a player or time limit, and it’s the last game to be completed at the Borderlands. Will Arisu, Usagi and their companions finally be able to shed the light on the mysteries of Borderland?
