Deadline has reported that iconic Broadway actress Patti LuPone is joining the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos. As usual, the exact details regarding her role are being kept under wraps, but the report indicated that she’ll be playing a witch. The cast already includes returning WandaVision actresses Kathryn Hahn and Emma Caulfield Ford as well as MCU newcomers Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, and Sasheer Zamata. Jac Schaefer is also serving as the head writer of the series just like in WandaVision.
LuPone is a three-time Tony winner who has starred in several iconic Broadway shows for decades, most recently in the revival of Company. She also starred in TV shows such as American Horror Story, Hollywood, Pose, and Penny Dreadful. She starred in films such as Driving Miss Daisy, Witness, Last Christmas, and The School for Good and Evil. It’s always wonderful whenever an MCU project adds a talent of her caliber. She is definitely the most high-profile casting here yet since she is a Broadway legend and it is really interesting to hear that she somehow agreed to join the MCU. It is exciting to see what kind of role will she play and some fans are also curious if it’s a singing role given her stature. This is one of the two WandaVision spinoff series that is currently in the works at Marvel Studios. It was reported a while ago that they’re also working on a Vision-centric series titled Vision Quest that is also currently in development. Schaefer is also serving as the head writer for that project.
